A brave and engaging piece that looks behind doors that have been locked from the inside, opens windows that have been painted shut and removes wool from eyes that have been covered for too long. Through the words of a poet, a mother, a preacher and others we are move to examine some of our own prejudices and fears. You may laugh, cry or even shout Amen as you journey with these wonderfully diverse characters in our communities.
For two nights only Deirdre Boddie-Henderson brings back to the historic stage at WOW Cafheater her One Woman Show. It is the home that helped nurture this piece into fruition and introduced it to the public. Seven separate characters welcome you to take a glimpse into their world and see how the deal with lifes social challenges. It is an original work that contains strong content and unique perspective.
Deirdre has been performing for over twenty years in regional and off-Broadway theaters. She loves the experience of entertaining and opening hearts through performance. The Washington Post called her a powerful stage force. This piece is very dear to her because it speaks to so many painful issues that are too often ignored. Also, it gives a thought-provoking look into spirit of personal struggle.
(Actor, Singer, Writer) began her theatrical career in Washington, DC performing in theater such as the Kennedy Center, Arena Stage, Living Stage, Studio Theater and Source Theater Company. She has worked with the New Theater Company as an acting instructor and directed childrens theater productions with the Kennedy Center and Living Stage. Most of her work, however, has been as an actor appearing such productions as Rent (NYTW), the Hating Pot with Liz Swados, Tales of the Tribe (Ohio Theater), New (Circle Repertory Theater) and Taming of the Shrew (Riverside Shakespeare Company). She has an extensive commercial and voice-over career and as a Stand-up Comic has been seen on The Apollo Comedy Hour, Lifetimes Girls Night Out and on stage at Carolines, The Duplex, Dont Tell Momma and Stand-up New York. Film and television credits include: Law and Order Seed, the Hating Pot on PBS, Run of the House and Laws of Gravity.
