WOW has turned 40 this year! And what a year to turn 40! We have not only survived – we grew, created,  and thrived. We’ve grown so big that now we have WOW members all over the globe! We created life and art and unity of spirits among the differences. We survived when many theaters were shattered! In 1980 we were a thought, a seed, an idea that was planted, and watered and fed by many. In 2020 we are a creative community, a family of creatives and all who love us.

To survive WOW needs our family, and because of this we have decided to provide small grants to those of us who are most in need right now. Since we don’t have any income as we cannot rent our space, nor produce live shows safely we need those of you who are still employed to help us help those of us who have less. WOW has always been about sharing – sharing our space, our work and our support and we will not let each other down!

We would like to raise $40,000 for our 40th – that is $1000 for each year we existed. We know it will take time so we are giving ourselves a year to reach this goal. We need to raise at least $5,000 to support our artists with personal loans! We need another $15,000 to update our HVAC system to comply with the city standards for safe air. Finally, we would really like to raise another $20,000 to update our lighting system. We were able to secure funding and are in the process of getting ADA bathroom (yay!) because we want to make sure we are increasingly accessible to everyone.

Imagine coming back after this nightmarish year and being stronger than before; our artists feeling supported, our space fully accessible and our stage well lit and ready for some action! In the time when others are trying to imagine how to create a better world we already have a formula – mutual support, anti capitalist structure and creativity.
